This year’s Charity Run started off with a brief rain shower from 6:00am that lasted for almost half an hour. That didn’t hinder the runners from pouring in, eager to get on their marks. Just like the previous year, the races were demarcated into 10 and 5kms respectively. Registered Runners were all looking smart, clad in their Emmaus Foundation-branded vests and with route number tags, one could tell that they were proud to be a part of the Organization’s annual Charity Run. The aerobics team did their thing to warm participants up; most excited were the school children, who were eager to take-off in the 5km-long race.
This year’s Chief Runner was Hon Eng. Hillary Onek, Uganda’s Cabinet Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Refugees. At 7:00am, he flagged off the runners and in only thirty minutes, the runners had returned, winners beaming with confidence to walk away with prizes of various kinds.
The afternoon was very colorful as winners of the institutional games competition were rewarded with various items including smart phones, home appliances, Television sets, scholastic materials, goats and gift humpers etc. A variety of games that lined up for competitions included volley ball, netball, kids’ games and the football match competition that attracted many participants. At the end of the day the Scalabrini Cup, 2018 stayed with Bishop Cipriano Kihangire Secondary School – Boarding Section.
