Rev.Fr. John Scalabrini’s life and legacy celebrated

On October 1, 2017 ; the very first Mass prayer in the all new Uganda Martyrs’ Catholic Chapel – Kyambogo University (KYU) was held. Emmaus Foundation was present to witness the official opening and blessing of the house of God, after playing a very big role in contributing towards the construction and completion of the chapel – the pledge that Fr.John had made before his demise on October 4, 2016.

October 4, 2017, was honored in remembrance of philanthropist Fr. John Scalabrini – the Founder of Emmaus Foundation. It was a day full of celebration, although undeniably mixed with a sense of nostalgia for many,  it being the exact date that Fr. John departed from us to be with the Lord. The beautiful songs – Fr. John’s favorite songs were sung in honor of his scrupulous life, a life well lived.  A special mass was held to commemorate his life and legacy at Bishop Cipriano Kihangire Senior Secondary School Luzira (BCKSSS) in Kampala – one of the schools that Fr. John built to educate the needy children. The chief celebrant was none other than his Grace Arch-Bishop Dr. John Baptist Odama of Gulu Arch-Diocese. The Arch-Bishop delivered a sermon that touched many souls: he urged the congregation to respect one another irrespective of background; a perfect word for all who walked, laughed and shared in the love and joy of the beloved Fr. John Scalabrini who left the luxuries of his home in Italy and became Ugandan for over 5 decades of his adult life. The day was made colorful by performances from the Bishop Cipriano Kihangire (BCK) Schools especially Bishop Cipriano Kihangire Primary School (BCKPS) pupils who were the main entertainers of the day.
