The afternoon of October 3, 2017, saw the management and staff of Benedict Medical Center (BMC), Luzira; the hospital that Fr. John Scalabrini built, give free medical checkups and treatment to the communities around them especially Kisenyi. This drive was part of honoring the Fr. John Scalabrini legacy (health and charity) during the October 1-8, 2017 Fr.John Scalabrini commemoration week. BMC actively and successfully participated in partnership with the following volunteers/sponsors: Uganda Dental School, Glen Mark/Star Pharmaceuticals, Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries, UTODA, Focus on Recovery, GSK, Balimwezo FA Foundation, Truth Fountain Church Kisenyi, Emmaus Foundation, Pacific Diagnostic, Stirling, Indian friend of BMC and Chicken Tonight.
1,527 people were attended to. They were diagnosed and given immediate treatment, completely free of charge; 112 people with dental problems were freely given treatment; 11 people got tooth replacements (new dentures), completely free of charge; 67 people received free counseling, courtesy of Focus on Recovery; free mosquito nets were handed out to those mostly in need in Kisenyi; over 900 pieces of sensodyne toothpaste were distributed freely to the community.
Benedict Medical Center, together with Emmaus Foundation recognizes and extends sincere gratitude to all our dear sponsors. Success was registered because of you. It was a job well done. Fr. John would have done exactly the same: Freely give to those who can’t afford. May his legacy continue to live.
